Izayoi is the daughter of Tohru Honda and Inuyasha Honda that was named after Inuyasha’s deceased mother. However, she is called Iza most if not always over her full name, exceptions being if she is being scolded by her parents or other such instances where someone is angry at her. She is around the same age as Mei Higurashi and is very close with her and Towa Higurashi, the former being her best friend and the latter being seen as an unofficial older sister.
She is very close with both of her parents, but more so Inuyasha. This is because Tohru most of the time is working multiple jobs to provide for her family, and thus most of the time she is looked after by her father. In addition, Iza has been obsessed with her demonic side ever since she first saw what her father could really do and seeing his demonic physical traits like his fangs, claws, ears, and golden eye color. It filled her with a sense of pride to have his eyes, and thus wanted to be just as cool and strong as him someday and show both sides to her.
Despite being born a quarter-demon though, Iza’s demon blood that she inherited from her father very much dormant. She can smell and hear a bit better than a normal human, but not by much. She also is not that much physically stronger or faster, and does not possess any speed healing capabilities or a new moon like night where her physicality changes. Naturally, this fact very much frustrates Iza and thus she tries to do everything she can to bring out her dog demon blood that she knows is inside of her. This can range from acting animalistic (such as growling, walking on all fours, and drying herself via shaking as opposed to using a towel), or trying to perform Inuyasha’s Iron Reaver Soul Stealer technique and transform his Tessaiga. It is the only thing she thought would work to awaken her dormant demon blood, even if all her attempts end in failure.
Due to this and an incident where she bit one of her classmates who was picking on another kid in her class, Iza is not well-received at her school. She is often separated from the other children most of the time, both by teachers and by the kids themselves due to people thinking she is ‘weird’ or ‘wrong’. This is why outside of the Higurashi family and her parents, Iza has no other strong bonds with anyone else due to not being able to communicate why she does what she does due to having to keep her demon heritage a secret. If it wasn’t for Tohru wanting her to go through school, Iza probably would not have bothered with it despite being able to learn pretty well when she focuses.
Iza wants more than anything to be able to be a demon and a human like her father is. She looks in the mirror at herself and sees how mortal she is like her mother (Iza having Tohru’s kind heart, empathy, and courage), but also sees the golden eyes from her father that signal she is part demon. However, those eyes also signal her frustration that she seems to just be a human, causing her to sometimes cry and get upset that she might be stuck like this forever and never get to be a real quarter-demon.
